One block: a hundred and fifty centimetres by eighty, forty-five tall, its four corners drawn round on a ten-centimetre radius. No legs and no base — the whole form is the piece, sitting flat on the floor. It opens in Calacatta Viola, dark veining running broad across a white ground, which is the stone it was drawn for. Any other stone in the library will take its place.
